Local Art Installation: Kari Cavén’s “Vattenfall”.
To me, the local art installation, a wall of faucets that the artist Kari Cavén calls “Vattenfall” (waterfall), symbolizes both a binary perspective, on or off, and the eternal flow of life catalyzed through water. With time, the flow of life is inevitably reduced to a mere trickle, then just drops until one day, nothing. The faucet runs dry.
With a few years abroad and a short stint in Gamla Väster, Malmö’s “old town” neighborhood, we’ve lived in Västra Hamnen more or less permanently since 2002. I pass these faucets most days of the week and they continue to fascinate me more than any other art installation in the area.
