Malmö is a city with both backbone and heart – and I’ve carried it in mine for nearly three decades. It proudly bears the marks of its past, from the heyday of heavy industry to the dynamic, forward-facing city it is today.
What continues to fascinate me is Malmö’s remarkable transformation – a journey from shipyards and factories to innovation hubs, academic institutions, and a unique collaboration between businesses and political governance. Here, change isn’t feared; it’s embraced. It’s part of the city’s DNA.
But what has truly held my attention throughout the years here is found in the rhythm of everyday life – in the people, the energy, the contrasts, and those spontaneous, unexpected moments that give Malmö its pulse and vibe.
It’s a place where global influences meet and mix in cuisines, languages, and cultural expressions all thriving side by side. In this city, creativity and openness aren’t aspirations – they’re realities.
And then there’s football – Malmö’s heartbeat. MFF is more than a team; it’s woven into the city’s identity. At the stadium, in street-corner conversations, and across generations, the pride and passion for the city’s team run deep. It’s a unifying force that transcends background and origin.
Through my camera, I’ve tried to capture the essence of this place – the passing light, the unnoticed details, the stories written into its streets. I’m drawn to both the dramatic and the quiet – always seeking what makes Malmö so endlessly compelling. For sure, it’s a city in constant motion, yet its roots remain grounded in the rich soil of Skåne.
This book is my tribute to Malmö – a warm, visually immersive, and deeply personal portrait of a city that’s both self-assured and ever-curious. A place to live, to explore – and to always find your way back to.
