YACHT ROCK DOCKUMENETARY

An old friend recently recommended this documentary and since I had listened to most of the bands and musicians in it since the late 1970s  (even met a few), I dropped everything I was doing and watched it. It’s well-made and spans an era of music that I still connect with and enjoy playing from time to time.

More importantly, the documentary does an excellent job of examining the evolution of the “Yacht Rock” genre and how the cross-pollination of jazz, R&B, funk, and pop filled the airwaves with groovy tunes by Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Toto, Michael Mcdonald, Christopher Cross and many, many others. Also, as an old wordsmith and wordplay enthusiast, I love the cheeky title of the documentary.
